Meyer and Goldie Gasner

Meyer (1906-1974) and Goldie (1905-1992) Gasner lived their lives committed to charity, focused on the disadvantaged and on education in all its dimensions.Meyer was born in New York, Goldie in Toronto. Meyer graduated from what is now the Yeshiva University in New York and met Goldie who while she was visiting New York; he followed her to Toronto where they were married on August 19, 1928. Meyer went into the automotive parts business as a salesman. His success in this industry led to him becoming the president of Midas Muffler Canada.

They were a cornerstone of Jewish belief and leadership both in the city of Toronto and in Canada. Among Meyer’s many honours are the recognition of his achievements with the Jewish National Fund at the Negev dinner in 1958, the Centennial Medal of Canada in 1967, and an Honourary Doctorate of Letters from the Yeshiva University in New York in 1970.

Goldie was active in the synagogue sisterhood and the Mizrachi Movement. She also provided tremendous support to Meyer in his many endeavors.

Their “clan” consists of two sons, six grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
