Mobile Jewish Response to the Homeless outreach assistant

Description
Assist outreach services by distributing food, hot coffee, clothing items, toiletries, and other basic necessities to the homeless people on the streets of Toronto. To read more about the program click here.

Tuesday: 6:00 pm - midnight
Wednesday: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
Thursday: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
Sunday: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Commitment Required
One shift
Minimum Age
13 if accompanied by an adult, otherwise 16
Required Skills
An open mind, a willingness to listen, and sensitivity toward others.
Other Notes
Please register 2-4 weeks in advance for a weekday shift, and 2-3 months in advance for a weekend shift. The van can accommodate a maximum of 3 volunteers per shift.

Newcomers’ Homework Club Tutor

Description
Assist students (who are typically new to Canada) with their schoolwork through individual tutoring and mentorship.
Date/Time
Mondays: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Wednesdays: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Beginning of October to end of June
Location
Duke of York Public School, Regent Park
Commitment Required
Minimum two evenings per month throughout the academic year
Minimum Age
13
Required Skills
Basic math, science and English knowledge, patience, interest in education, teaching or tutoring skills, experience working with children is an asset.
Other Notes
Volunteers will receive training, support, and coaching.

If applying for the MJRH program, a representative will call you to book your shift. You will need to read the MJRH Volunteer Instructions and sign and return the Agreement Form prior to your shift.

If applying to the Newcomers’ Homework Club, you will be asked for a Police Reference Check.
