On the evening of October 10th, something very special will happen to the CN Tower – it will be lit up in Ve’ahavta’s colours – blue, yellow, and green – to mark World Homeless Day.

There are so many impactful organizations in our city that are helping people struggling with poverty and homelessness, each in their own way. We are proud to represent the Jewish community on this critically important cause. Lighting the CN Tower is our way of shedding some light on Ve’ahavta’s unique way of solving poverty: one person at a time.

Ve’ahavta’s philosophy for solving poverty stems from Judaism and the belief that the world we are born into is intrinsically unfair; that there are haves and have-nots – not just financially, but in all ways – and that it is our job as human beings to balance the scales by sharing our resources, expertise, communities, and our care with each other.

When we come together to help each other, it has the power to awaken each person’s infinite potential, to ignite transformative change, and ultimately to solve seemingly insurmountable social problems – like poverty and homelessness.

Every day of the week, our mobile outreach vans provide life-saving services in the form of hot meals, clothing, harm reduction supplies, and other basic essentials, for people facing homelessness in downtown Toronto and Scarborough.

For people who are ready to launch their journey to stability, our pre-employment programs equip them with the resources, skills, confidence, and caring community to achieve their goals, attain sustainable self-sufficiency, and change their lives.

Right now, poverty and homelessness in our city are at an all-time high.

If Ve’ahavta’s approach to solving poverty one person at a time resonates with you, please join our efforts to Light Up the Night on October 10th. There are many ways to show your support. Click here to get started.

Thank you,

The Ve’ahavta Staff Team
