Wow! Just Wow!
The 4th annual Ve’ahavta Project 2022 event this past Sunday had more than 400 people show up at 10 different locations across the city to roll up their sleeves and volunteer to help those who will be facing the Toronto winter unhoused. I am just awed and cannot thank you enough for your participation, your generosity and well, for just caring enough to want to make a difference.
You raised over $65,000, made 225 blankets, baked 450 cookies, and packed 300 harm reduction kits, all of which will be distributed on our two outreach vans, to people living in shelters, encampments and right on the streets in Toronto’s downtown core and Scarborough.
But what moved me even more than the tangible outputs of this wonderful day, was the outpouring of love that could be felt at all 10 locations. The energy was palpable. It proved to me, without a doubt, that you genuinely care. That you feel love and empathy in your heart for strangers. That you have hope for a bright future and the belief that you can help create it.
And you know what? You’re right.
What Ve’ahavta clients need, even more than the cozy blankets, delicious food, and carefully packed kits that you made them, is our love. They need to feel the thread of connection that binds us as human beings. And that is what you created on Sunday. Thank you!
