Keynote speaker: Megan Phelps-Roper
Canada Post Unveiling Ceremony for the 2017 Hanukkah stamp
We are very honoured to have had Canada Post unveil their 2017 Hanukkah stamp at our event and to have President and CEO Deepak Chopra and MP Marco Mendicino there for the ceremony together with Ve’ahavta chair Gary Samuel, Executive Director Cari Kozierok, Mariana Catz from UJA and Madi Murariu from CIJA.
Humanitarian Award– PEACH (Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless) program delivers palliative care to homeless and precariously housed individuals across the city. The program is run by Dr. Naheed Dosani and Namarig Ahmed, MN, RN of the Inner City Health Associates in collaboration with Leslie Randl, Care Coordinator of the Toronto Central LHIN.
Emerging Leader Award – Marc Soberano, Founder and Executive Director of Building Up, a non-profit social enterprise. Building Up trains and employs Torontonians with barriers to employment to install energy and water efficient retrofits in Toronto’s low-income housing buildings.
Lifetime Achievement Award – Karen Goldenberg, C.M., has been an outstanding leader in the health and social service field, devoting her life to supporting people to live with dignity in the community. Leading with warmth and vision, she has been at the helm of numerous Jewish and social service organizations. She is an active volunteer in the Jewish and broader community, both locally and in Israel, and is a recipient of the Order of Canada.
